G’s Evaluation or How Did We Have Eight and Three Quarters Games?

Welcome back, college football fans, from the tease that was Week 0. We had a Group of 5 team (Hawaii) beat a Core 4 team (Stanford) at home, on a last second field goal, to beat the spread 23-20. We had the FCS kickoff in Montgomery, AL, cancelled due to weather with just under half a quarter to go, erasing all stats and pretending none of it happened (I guess the travel for UC Davis and Mercer were competition enough). We had our first shutout when Tarleton took down Portland St 42-0. Our Dublin, Ireland game was a thriller with Iowa St edging Kansas St 24-21. Kansas looked strong taking down Fresno St 31-7. Incarnate Word was embarrassed by Nicholls 20-6 and the MEAC bested the SWAC when NC Central beat Southern 31-14. The Conference USA kickoff was owned by the Hilltoppers of W Kentucky who bested Sam Houston 41-24.

…..

FCS Idaho St led most of the game, but Group of 5 UNLV coached by Dan Mullen came back and the defense held on the last drive to win 38-31 in the game of the week.

…..

Each of the teams that actually finished a game is ranked in the top 16 as of right now but I’m not going to publish until after the official Week 1 games next week (spoiler, Kansas is currently #1). Everyone who has not played an official game is now 0-0/17.

This post is designed to be a bit of a tease itself, and that’s it for the 501st episode of the GCR. Have a great week and we’ll be back on Thursday with the games to watch, JoJo and G.
