G’s Evaluation or The Final 2025-26 College Football Ranking

Welcome back, sports fans, as we begin our closeout of this crazy football season. It has been nearly 30 years since Florida won their first national championship. Since then, every FBS winner, from Nebraska the next two seasons to Ohio St last year, was a repeat champion. During those decades pundits would speculate who would be the next first-time champion. I daresay no one thought it would be the Indiana Hoosiers. Yet here we are, after a 27-21 victory over Miami FL which included a blocked punt for a TD and a game-saving interception in the last minute, and the Hoosiers have a football trophy to complement the basketball trophies already won. They did it in dominating fashion. They won close games and they won blowouts. What they did not do is lose. Only two other teams in all of Division I lost just 1 game: Lehigh and North Dakota St – both lost their game in the FCS playoffs. At 16-0, Indiana lapped the rest of the FBS field with no one else losing fewer than 2. The GCR would have ranked Indiana #1 if the score yesterday was reversed. Had that happened, the spell would have been broken, and the doubters and nay-sayers would be out in force. No one can pretend this team was anything other than the best. In the final ranking Ohio St and Oregon were 2nd and 3rd with a combined record of 25-4, but they were 0-3 against these Hoosiers. Even in last night’s game – a one-score classic – Indiana never trailed. They bent – the 21 points allowed in the second half were the third most allowed in a full game all season, but they found a way to win. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and supporting staff of the National Champion Indiana Hoosiers (16-0/1).
