Welcome back, sports fans, after one of the craziest weeks in a long time. Five teams that were undefeated coming in lost. Mississippi losing at Georgia in a close game or UNLV losing to Boise St on the blue-headache-inducing field is one thing, but Miami FL lost to Louisville and Memphis lost to UAB. Texas Tech, with a second-string QB, kept it close with Arizona St, but joined the crowd. All in all, there is a shake up in the GCR and you can expect one in the AP poll coming out soon.

Memphis’ loss, along with wins by Tennessee Tech and Presbyterian now put the longest D1 winning streak at 11 shared by the two FCS teams. With the five first losses, we now have 14 perfect teams. In the Core 4, BYU (win over Utah), Georgia Tech (Duke), Indiana (Michigan St), Ohio St (Wisconsin), and Texas A&M (Arkansas). In the Group of 5, Navy (IDLE). In the FCS, Lehigh (IDLE), Tarleton (West Georgia), Harvard (Merrimack), Montana (Sacred Heart), North Dakota St (Indiana St), Presbyterian (Stetson), Tennessee Tech (Lindenwood), South Dakota St (Murray St).

Congratulations are in order for the five previously winless teams who got rid of the goose egg. Cornell topped Bucknell, Holy Cross swatted Richmond, Mississippi Valley took down non-D1 Lincoln CA, Samford beat VMI, and Oregon St beat FCS opponent Lafayette. That leaves us with five remaining teams who will try to pick up a victory before the season is over. FCS schools Murray St (loss to South Dakota St), Portland St (Weber St), St Francis (IDLE) along with Sam Houston (UTEP) and UMASS (Buffalo) are still on the list. UMASS led Buffalo most of the game but allowed an 84-yd TD with just 19 seconds left to lose yet again.

We started the week with 10 teams already bowl eligible and we added 14 more: North Texas, South Florida, Tulane, Virginia, Oregon, Cincinnati, Houston, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, James Madison, and Hawaii. We also had UMASS in that heartbreaking loss join Oregon St as the only two teams excluded from bowl participation. With 82 spots to fill, there is a lot of football left.
