G’s Evaluation or the Top 263 After Championship Week

Well, college football fans, the last two days have been very exciting considering there were only 18 games played. Congratulations to the FCS winners that are moving on to the round of 8 and to the 10 Conference Champions. We had pure upsets (thank you, Army, Ohio, Clemson, Georgia, and Marshall) which may or may not wreak havoc on the playoff announcements at noon Eastern today, Vegas upsets (thank you, Rhode Island, Montana, Tarleton, and Abilene Christian), overtime games (thank you, SEC), and last-minute heroics (thank you, SMU and Clemson).

The GCR was just 5-4 (.556) straight up (just simply picking the winner) in the FBS games bringing the year to date to 415-269 (.665) while the FCS games were 8-1(.889) and 329-171 (.658). For the year, the 1126 predicted games went 747-379 (.663). Against the spread (taking into consideration the Vegas point spread), the GCR was 11-7 (.611) this week with a 2024 306-269 (.532) in the 575 games. It was nice to have some FCS games in that mix this week.

As a reminder, this is the last ranking until after both final championship games (FCS and FBS) are played. I will update the system every day a game is played and will use those latest numbers to predict the next day’s games, but moving would be too minimal to make it worth publishing the ranking too frequently. For those who are new (or just simply don’t remember from previous years), during the bowl season, I post predictions for each day that a playoff game or bowl game is being played, even if it’s just 1 game.
