Welcome back, college football fans, as we see what havoc the craziness from this week wreaked on the GCR. The very top with Texas (5-0/1) and very bottom with St Thomas (1-3/263) stayed the same but a series of unexpected events stirred up everybody else. Miami FL (5-0/8) edged out Virginia Tech (2-3/64) on a very controversial play. It took much too long to overturn a Hail Mary that was originally ruled as a touchdown. Yes, the replay showed the ball was loose during the catch, but I never saw it hit the ground. Maybe the guy who ended up with it was partially out of bounds on the ground. I don’t know. The Hurricanes are on the highest ranked team in the ACC in the GCR. And, of course, the Crimson Elephant Tide of Alabama (4-0/7) took out Georgia (3-1/21) by jumping to a 28-0 start early in the second quarter and 30-7 at the half. The Bulldawgs didn’t go lightly into that good night and even took the lead late in the 4th quarter with a 67-yard catch and run only to lose the lead for good 13 seconds later when Bama went 75 for the final score of the game, 41-34.

Helene and her destruction not only had an impact on the lives and health of many too many people, but also on college football. Middle Tennessee players were stuck on their buses overnight trying to get to a game with The Citadel (MTSU won that game), Florida A&M and Alabama A&M shifted their game to November, Samford and Furman will have to meet up again later in the season, App St and Liberty canceled their game (at least so far), and the Presbyterian/Davidson game shifted from Saturday to Sunday (not included in these rankings but will be in next week’s) and from a PC home game to a Davidson home game. I sincerely hope that you, your family and friends, and all of your loved ones are safe from the storm.

Of the 5 games mentioned in the last G’s Expectation, 4 won and covered (Army all over Temple, Rutgers taking down Washington, BYU with the road win at Baylor, and Alabama/Georgia) with only Louisville failing to meet the GCR expectation as Notre Dame won and covered. Overall, the GCR was 68-34 (.667) straight up for all of FBS and FCS and 28-23-1 (.549) against the spread (FBS/FBS games only). In next week’s expectation, I’ll describe how to interpret the % to win to spread.
