Welcome back college football fans. What a weekend! Rivalry week never disappoints. Not to mention we had the first round of the FCS playoffs which included the Ivy League for the first time! Let’s get into it a bit.

First, congratulations to Villanova (Lehigh), Rhode Island (UC Davis), Yale (Montana St), Illinois St (North Dakota St), North Dakota (Tarleton), Abilene Chr (Steph F Austin), South Dakota (Mercer), and South Dakota St (Montana) for moving on to Round 2. I’ve added the teams they will visit next week.

The Championship week schedule is clearing up after the week’s activities. Here is the schedule.
ACC – Duke/Virginia
American – North Texas/Tulane
Big 12 – BYU/Texas Tech
Big Ten – Indiana/Ohio St
C-USA – Kennesaw St/Jacksonville St
MAC – Miami OH/W Michigan
MWC – unannounced, but there is a 4-way tie for first (the record against each other in parenthesis): Boise St (2-1), New Mexico (2-1), San Diego St (1-1), UNLV (0-2). Based on that, I suspect Boise St and New Mexico will meet on the blue field for the championship.
SEC – Georgia/Alabama
SUN – Troy/James Madison
SWAC (FCS) – Prairie View/Jackson St (winner plays South Carolina St in the Celebration Bowl)

When this week of football began, 73 teams had already clinched bowl eligibility, and 22 teams had 5 wins. With 82 spots available, we just needed 9 of those teams to win. Alas, only 8 (Arkansas St, Army, Delaware, Ga Southern, Kansas St, Louisiana, Texas St, and Washington St) were able to pull out a victory. There are two consequences to coming up 1 position short: 1) the 5-7 team with the best APR will get a chance to play in a bowl, and 2) both of our new FBS teams, Missouri St and Delaware, qualify for a bowl. Because they just promoted, they would be bumped first if more than enough teams qualified. The 14 teams who lost on their final chance to earn a bowl game are App St, Auburn, Baylor, Buffalo, Florida St, Kansas, Kentucky, Marshall, Mississippi St, Northwestern, Rice, Rutgers, Temple, and UCF. These teams, along with Akron and Kent St, will be in the pool for the 5-7 bowl team.

On Friday, the G’s Expectation will be released with predictions for championship week and the 2nd round of the playoffs. Of course, the Women’s Basketball Top 363 will come out Monday, and the Men’s BB will follow on Wednesday. It’s a full week of college sports and we have you covered.
