G’s Expectation or A Full Slate of Win or Go Home Games!

Welcome back, college sports fans, as we dive into a busy day. We have games with tipoffs from 11:00am to 11:30pm (all times Eastern) and everything in between. Overall, we have 53 tourney games today including four finals. Speaking of finals, congratulations to the 3 women’s champions crowned yesterday (Green Bay-Horizon League, Colorado St-Mountain West Conference, and Gonzaga-West Coast Conference) who punched their NCAA tickets. The men had 5 who won their banner (Hofstra-Coastal Athletic Association, Wright St-Horizon League, Siena-MAAC, Long Island-Northeast Conference, and Gonzaga-West Coast Conference).

…..

Yesterday, the GCR correctly picked the winner 9 out of 10 times (with 3 games not predicted). That brings the 4-day total to 67-16 (.807). For those wondering why just 4 days, we did not publish predictions for the first couple of tourney days. While we could go back and determine who we would have picked for completeness, it is kind of cheating since the selections were not published. Starting tomorrow, we will quit counting the days and just call it the total. For a reminder, when we publish NO PRED it indicates that the GCR metrics, Score and RPIF, differ in which team is “better.” If both metrics agree, we publish that team as the projected winner. If they disagree, we cannot pick. The data, in a small sample so far, show that when there is a disagreement, neither of the metrics is “more right” than the other – it’s very close to 50/50. Here are today’s games.

The men are a little more frustrating from a prediction standpoint. If the women are Marching, the men are just Madness. The GCR had a 14-7 (.667) record yesterday bringing the 4-day total (see the women’s write up above) to 53-27 (.663). It’s a big slate today for the men.
