G’s Expectation or And Then There Was One

Welcome to episode 444 of the GCR, oh great and wonderful college football fans. With Ohio St winning the rematch against Oregon, there is just a single undefeated team left. More on that in a moment. Saturday gave us our last non-semi-or-final game of the season when Buffalo (9-4/68) ran all over Liberty (8-4/85) 26-7. The GCR had Liberty winning the upset bringing down the GCR to 30-16 (.652) straight up and 24-22 (.522) against the spread. Here are the FBS bowl standings as of today:

Now back to the main feature. After a 12-game season (new to the FCS as a whole) and a 24-team playoff (yes, there was controversy over teams that weren’t selected), we are down to the final two. Tonight on ESPN at 7:00 Eastern, out of Frisco, Texas, the Missouri Valley Football Conference juggernaut North Dakota St Bisons (13-2/136) vs the Big Sky’s Montana St Bobcats (15-0/89), the only remaining undefeated team in Division I. 262 teams have tasted defeat at least once, but not the Bobcats. When you look at their GCR rankings, remember there are 134 FBS or “big” schools. Both of these teams should be able to beat a significant number of Group of 5 and Core 4 teams given the opportunity. If I were football commissioner, I’d like to see these two teams plus South Dakota and South Dakota St move up to either the Mountain West, Pac 12, or MAC. They would be near-instant contenders not only in those conferences, but also for that 5th playoff spot. Anyway, back to the game. NDST lost the opener to Colorado (9-4) by a score of 31-26, won their next 10, lost to playoff team South Dakota (11-3) 29-28, before getting through the semifinals on a 3-game win streak. They beat South Dakota St (12-3) twice. They were 10-0 in 2+score games, but just 3-2 in close calls. The Bobcats beat New Mexico (Group of 5) 35-31, Idaho (10-4) twice, and took out South Dakota 31-17 in the semis. They are not used to close games going 2-0. Vegas has Montana St-3.5 and the GCR agrees 57% and to cover. You do not want to miss this game.

That’s it for today. I’ve got some work to do to start getting ready for post-season post as we get ready for this weekend’s FBS semifinals, so I’ll be back Friday. Thank you for reading and sharing with others, G
