Greetings college football fans. The bittersweet month of December is closing – a bunch of bowl games and playoff games are about to hit us as the hectic hustle and bustle of the holiday season, to be followed by 8 months of spring and fall camps, ungodly amounts of speculation, and anticipation for 2020. Don’t worry, we’ll be there for all of it – albeit not at the same frequency of blogs, but we’ll try to stay on top of it.
There are two games on tap today. First, at 2:00pm (all times Eastern), Buffalo (7-5,5-3, 4th in the MAC East) will take on Charlotte (7-5, 5-3, 4th in the C-USA East) in the Bahamas Bowl. There are worse places to be this time of year than Nassau. Buffalo’s opponents so far are a combined 75-71 and they are 0-1 against the top 25, losing to Penn State. Charlotte faced 71-76 opponents, but did play both Clemson and App State. The Bulls 85th rated offense should be able to score on the 49ers 195th ranked defense, but I don’t think it will be enough. Buffalo (82/80) is favored by 6.5, but Charlotte (65) will prevail in a close one 52.0%
In the night game (7:30), the Frisco Bowl pits Kent State (6-6, 5-3, 3rd in the MAC East) against Utah State (7-5, 6-2, 3rd in the MTW Mountain). Utah State (75/62) is favored by 6.0. The Aggies played 3 Top 25 teams, losing to LSU, Air Force, and Boise State so their SOS is really strong – opponents were 94-64. This game should be a high-scoring affair as the better than average Aggie offense will take advantage of the weak (171st rank) Golden Flashes defense. But, before we jump on that bandwagon, Kent State (66/53) played both Auburn and Wisconsin and their opponents were 78-70. They are a decent offense (118th) and should prevail – GCR says 67.5% of the time.
Enjoy today’s games and let me know your thoughts – share, subscribe, and keep up with college football.
Thanks, G
