Welcome to episode 434 of the GCR. Yesterday, in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, a blowout of epic proportions occurred. After Coastal Carolina’s (6-7/110) starting and backup QBs left in the portal, they struggled against the UTSA (7-6/96) defense. Three TDs in a 7-minute span in the second quarter set the stage for a 44-15 rout. The good news for the Chanticleers is they got better as the game went on providing something to build on. The GCR did pick the winner but picked CCAR to cover the spread. Shifting from the teal field to the blue field, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl was very interesting to watch. Fresno St (6-7/113) never trailed in regulation building up a 13-3 first quarter lead. The third quarter was owned by N Illinois (8-5/82), scoring 10 unanswered to tie it. A scoreless 4th (and a 3rd missed field goal by FRST) led to OT. The Bulldogs scored first, which was answered by NILL. The Huskies scored on the first play in the 2nd OT and made the 2-point conversion, giving them their first lead of the game, then stopped Fresno St. Huskies win and cover as the GCR predicted.

Through 16 post-season games, the GCR is 14-2 (.875) picking the winner (missed Florida and South Dakota St), and 10-6 (.625) against the spread. Here is the updated conference bowl standing so far.

Today is Christmas Eve and the day before Hanukkah. I’m looking forward to the day off to spend with my family. From the GCR, I wish you the happiest of holidays. Before we go, there is a game at 8:00 Eastern tonight from Honolulu. The American Conference’s 6th place team, South Florida (6-6/105) will take on the Mountain West’s 7th place team, San Jose St (7-5/98). Both teams are 0-5 against bowl eligible teams. South Florida’s wins came against opponents who were 21-63 (.250) none of whom were in the GCR top 100. I’m a football addict, proudly, so I will watch this game (or at least the first half), but I don’t expect the best game tonight. It’s a great reward for these teams to visit the 50th state over Christmas. For that, I feel the need to support. Vegas has San Jose St-2.5 and the GCR agrees 55% and to cover.
