G’s Expectation or The Madness of March 20!

Welcome back, oh great and wonderful college sports fans, to the latest episode of the GCR. Yesterday, we almost saw 16-seed Siena take down 1-seed Duke in the Men’s NCAA. We did see VCU (11) beat North Carolina (6), High Point (12) best Wisconsin (5) to secure their first ever tournament victory, and Texas A&M (10) send St Marys (7) home. On the women’s side, unseeded Quinnipiac stopped George Mason (3), and E Kentucky (unseeded) dropped Utah (1) with both games in the WBIT.

…..

In the tables below, U in the Seeds column indicates an unseeded team (NIT games). The Conf and Seeds column are in the same order as the Games column. If both of the GCR’s predictive metrics (Score and RPIF) indicate the same team, we list that team as the expected winner in the Pred column. If the metrics contradict each other, we cannot predict the game and list NPre. If a game is played on a team’s home court, we add the 4.5 advantage to that team.

…..

The GCR was just 13-13 (.500) predicting the winners of the Women’s Tournaments yesterday bringing our total to 125-87 (.687). With 30 games played, there were 30 teams heading home as their seasons end. There are 116 women’s teams still alive, so 113 games to play (3 champions). We have 18 games today in two tournaments (NCAA and NIT). The WBIT returns for Round 2 on Sunday (March 22).

…..

There were 16 Men’s games yesterday, all in the NCAA Tournament. Of those we predicted 15 and finished 10-5 (.667) despite the major upsets. The keeps our total consistent at 150-75 (.667). Today, we have the other 16 NCAA Round 1 games. The NIT begins Round 2 on Saturday (3/21). The CBC doesn’t begin until 4/1. Going into today, there are 72 teams left which means there are 69 games left to eliminate all but the champions of the 3 tournaments. The funnel is getting smaller and that is what March is all about.
