Welcome back to championship week (or round 2 of the FCS playoffs). Yesterday we ranked the FBS conferences and now it’s time to do the same for the FCS brethren. It’s not as complicated as yesterday and no ranting and raving like a lunatic today. In fact, the rank is simply based on the average GCR ranking. A few notes: 1) the last column is the number of teams that won at least 7 games whether the conference participates in the playoffs or not, 2) the records are for out of conference games only, and 3) the rankings are out of 261 teams. Here are the 13 conferences and the lone Independent (who is moving to Conference USA next season – based on this season, that may sting just a little), from worst to first:
Conference (Teams) | Record (Pct) | Avg GCR Rating | Avg SOS Rating | 7+ win teams |
FCS Independent (1) | 3-6 (.333) | 255.00 | 240.00 | 0 |
Northeast (7) | 6-25 (.194) | 227.75 | 233.38 | 1 |
Pioneer (11) | 12-22 (.353) | 219.36 | 230.00 | 4 |
MEAC (6) | 13-23 (.361) | 208.00 | 205.83 | 1 |
Southland (8) | 6-27 (.182) | 200.38 | 201.75 | 1 |
Big South/Ohio Valley (10) | 24-26 (.480) | 200.20 | 180.40 | 3 |
SWAC (12) | 12-20 (.375) | 193.83 | 194.33 | 4 |
Patriot (7) | 18-18 (.500) | 193.14 | 190.29 | 2 |
