Welcome to a special edition of the GCR blog. First, and most important, if you are in the path of Hurricane Ian, please be safe. A few games have been impacted already: South Carolina St/South Carolina was moved to Thursday, E Washington/Florida and SMU/UCF were moved to Sunday, East Carolina/South Florida became a neutral game in Miami (yes, “South” Florida is in Tampa which is in the middle of the state, but who am I to judge), and San Diego/Stetson was cancelled (or at least postponed). I’m still waiting to hear about other games (Wake Forest/Florida St, Butler/Davidson, Mercer/Wofford, Samford/Furman, Richmond/Elon, Virginia Tech/UNC, Citadel/App St, VMI/W Carolina, Ga Southern/Coastal Carolina, UTEP/Charlotte, NC Central/Campbell, Mississippi Valley/Florida A&M, Bryant/NC A&T, NC St/Clemson, and Virginia/Duke) all of which are in the potential path of the storm. There’s no guarantee that any of these should or will change. Unless there is a venue change, it doesn’t affect the GCR predictions, but I’ll have tomorrow’s predictions as accurate to time/date/location as possible.

But this episode is about some game pics. The first one is from last season and apologies to long-time reader John L who sent it so long ago. This is from the Iowa at Northwestern game in which the Hawkeyes held on to a 17-12 win. Thank you, John, for sending this in and waiting patiently for me to take action.

Out second pic, also from last year is one from the Auburn/South Carolina game. Years ago, Jason W took me to the Plains to see a shootout between these two teams where I, in my Gamecock gear, was clearly in the minority, but the Auburn fans were great. The War Tigers played in Columbia in 2020 to limited seats and last year I was finally able to return the favor. We tailgated with a high-school friend, thank you again Roy M, and had a great time watching the game. This pic was pre-game which is proven by the smile on Jason’s face (in the foreground), before the Tigers fell to the surprise Gamecocks 21-17.

Our next pic is from a couple of weeks ago when the (really not so scary) Terriers of Wofford tried really hard (bless their hearts in the most Southern way I can say it) to challenge Virginia Tech but failed 27-7 (although they did score their first TD (in game 3) in junk time. Thanks to Kevin L for this great sideline pic.

And our last pic was taken by me at Mississippi St as they hosted Bowling Green. You can tell from the shot I was pretty high up, but I liked it because I could see plays developing. The Bulldogs grounded the Falcons 45-14 on a very hot Mississippi day.

That’s it for today but be on the lookout for tomorrow’s G’s Expectations for key games to watch and 177 predictions with a new GCR twist. I’ve been waiting for this the entire season. I hope you enjoy it. As far as game pics go, whenever you go to a game post in the comments or send to me and I’ll put your shot in the GCR archives. Thanks, G
