Women’s Top 362 in the Midst of March Madness

Welcome back college sports fans to the 458th episode of the GCR featuring Women’s College Basketball. This is the normal day for the ranking, but next weekend, I’m going to do all I can to get the rankings for both men and women out prior to Selection Sunday.

Speaking of the NCAA tournament, congratulations to George Mason of the Atlantic 10, Duke of the ACC, TCU of the Big 12, High Point of the Big South, UCLA of the Big Ten, Tennessee Tech of the Ohio Valley Conference, South Carolina of the SEC, Greensboro of the Southern Conference, and South Dakota St of the Summit League who have won their respective conference tournaments and have punched their automatic tickets. That’s 9 out of 31 with 22 to go.

If you haven’t been watching any women’s basketball, I strongly encourage you to do so. Yes, there are some not so great teams that look awful, but that’s true for every league from college to NBA and both genders. There are a lot of really great athletes, individual effort, team play, outstanding coaches, and, like any good sport, tons of drama. Check out some of the conference tournament games as well as the post season tournaments. It will be entertaining – that’s a GCR guarantee.

Even though I only publish once a week, I keep up with the results daily. At one point during this week of conference tournaments, Texas took over the top spot from South Carolina. At the time of the game, the Gamecocks were up by a whopping 0.20 points. I expected a closer game. I’m sure the Longhorns did too. UCLA finally got the Southern Cal monkey off their backs avenging the regular season sweep (and only 2 losses of the season). There’s a lot of basketball, but those 4 teams look to be the #1 seeds. UCONN and Creighton playing tonight (UCONN up 27-11 early in the second quarter) and the Huskies could jump into the GCR 4th spot, but their overall strength of schedule is a tad lower than the other 4.
