G’s Evaluation aka Week 7 Rankings

It was upset Saturday!!!! As great as this season has been, the upsets have been few and far between. That changed this week when 25 of the 105 Div I vs Div I games were won outright by the Vegas underdog! 9 of them were double digit dogs and 2 were more than 20 points. Of course, I have the list below with the closing line and the final score:

Those upsets did some shaking up of the rankings. A single upset impacts the teams involved and those that they play – 50 teams impacted directly means pretty much every team feels something. Teams that won this weekend may rise or fall (depending on who won/lost unexpectedly). But the same is true for teams that lost and teams, like Auburn (7) who avoided a loss to the bye. Speaking of Auburn, Jason Willard called the Gamecock (44) upset of the Bulldogs (34) before half time. Although it’s possible alcohol was involved and he was more than likely going to be wrong – I do have to call out the gods of football were kind.

7 of the top 10 teams and all 4 playoff spots belong to either the Big 10 or the SEC. It makes sense than that later today will be a deep dive into which conferences are excelling and which ones are waiting for basketball season to finally start. Ohio State (1) keeps the top spot after wisely choosing to be idle during upset Saturday. Alabama (2) holds on after an impressive win over Texas A&M (43). As weird as it sounds, Florida (3) despite the loss to LSU (5) is in right now based on being the only team with 2 top 25 wins (and a loss). Penn State (4) with a road win over Iowa (23) grabs the final spot. LSU, Oklahoma (6), Auburn, Wisconsin (8), Clemson (9), and Baylor (10) round out the top 10. Here is the GCR in it’s fullness. Please comment, question, complain, challenge, and, especially, subscribe and share with others. thanks, G
