G’s Evaluation or Week 13 College Football Ranking

Happy Sunday all of you wonderful college football fans. There were crazy times this week with the top 4 GCR upsets!! Overall, the GCR did a bit better than last week (75% correct), but it missed these. Kudos to Michigan St (79) beating Northwestern (19) while having just 11.1% chance of doing so, Oregon St (78) toppling Oregon (33) at 12.7%, Hawaii (88) edging Nevada (39) at 19.6%, and East Carolina (101) smothering SMU (42) at just 20.6% to win. Combined these 4 winners came into this week at 6-14 while the losers were 20-2! There were other near misses, but these 4 held on by a combined score of 146-117 – just 29 points that shocked us all. By the way, both of those losses belonged to SMU so 3 more undefeated teams went down.

Here’s our current list:

At 1-0: North Dakota St (66), and S Illinois (68) both of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. If FCS spring football, we could see a matchup of these 2 schools.

…..

At 3-0: the Pac-12 trio following Oregon’s loss, Southern Cal (8), Colorado (11), and Washington (13). Washington faces Stanford (109) and travels to Oregon (33). Colorado plays at Arizona (129) before hosting Utah (121) – a combined record of 0-5 – will it be enough? Southern Cal is scheduled to play Washington St (70) before UCLA (75). All of these teams should be favored to win out and this week’s cancelled Southern Cal/Colorado game will be important. If all the games are played, the championship will be Washington and Southern Cal (Colorado played a non-conference last minute game yesterday).

…..

At 4-0: First we have our lone Big 10 team, Ohio St (5). With a Covid outbreak impacting this week and a 14-day rule, they may not be able to finish their schedule. On the books, they travel to Michigan St (79) before hosting Michigan (110). The Big 10 rule is 6 games to be able to play for the championship. The Playoff committee has not specified a rule. Also at 4-0 is the lone Mountain West perfectionist, San Jose St (27). They have 2 home games left: Hawaii (88) and Nevada (39). Currently they are the only FBS perfect team not to be in the top 25. And rounding out this group, the 2 MAC undefeated squads: Buffalo (24) and W Michigan (25). Buffalo hosts Ohio (72) and travels to Akron (137) while W Michigan plays E Michigan (140) before hitting the road to Ball St (58). If both are still perfect, the MAC championship will be a good one.

…..

At 7-0: Marshall (15) has taken the Conference USA by storm. They have 2 games left: Rice (117) and at FIU (123), but both of these schools have had a lot of games cancelled. 9-0 (10-0 with the championship game) sounds a lot better than 8-0, but the Thundering Herd have done a great job this year.

…..

At 8-0: Alabama (2) has scored at least 38 points in every game this season. Not even Clemson’s (3) high-powered offense can say that. As of right now, the Tide only have one scheduled game left at LSU (77) which looked a lot bigger on paper before the season started, but they will most likely face Florida (7) in the SEC championship game. Also in this lofty group is Cincinnati (10) who goes on the road to face the AAC’s 2nd best team, Tulsa (26). It’s possible they will play the next week as well (a Memphis (36) loss would ice it) in the championship game.

…..

At 9-0: Notre Dame (1) which holds on to the top spot for at least another week still has to beat Syracuse (100) at home and travel to Wake Forest (40) before re-playing, in all likelihood, Clemson (3) for the ACC title. Next in line is Coastal Carolina (6) who is showing up week after week. Can they do it against Liberty (21) before traveling to Troy (81). If they can do that unscathed, they still face Louisiana (16) in a rematch. Finally, BYU (12) who has just one more game hosting San Diego St (83).

…..

There’s still a lot to play for. And a lot to think about. A full 25 games were postponed, cancelled, or last-minute scheduled this holiday weekend.

With no further ado, here is the GCR for week 13 from Notre Dame (1) to California (144) and every team that’s played in between. Thank you for reading and following. As always, thank you for sharing with others, G
