G’s Expectation or What to Watch in Week 6

It’s Thursday!!!! Only 1 more day (and 2 college games) before Saturday!! What could possibly be more exciting?!?! I’m watching Houston’s debut this year hosting 2-1 Tulane (60). Tulane just went up 14-7 with their second defensive TD of the 1st quarter. I didn’t say 2 good football games before Saturday . Tomorrow is the ACC meeting of two 1-2 teams with Louisville (31) at Georgia Tech (37). Please remember the rankings are only for teams that have played at least one game from UNC (1) to Citadel (86). Also, on a really sad note, Baylor has suspended all football activities following a substantial COVID outbreak.

…..

Last week there was just a single game in which both teams had a least 3 games played. The GCR is perfect so far at 1-0 as UAB topped UTSA 21-13. I don’t usually publish every pick but this is 2020 and things are different. So, this season if both teams are in the same league (FBS vs FBS or FCS vs FCS) and both teams have played at least 3 games, the GCR will pick the winner. The legal caveat: the GCR nor it’s owner encourage betting especially on the musings of this blog. We do not advise gambling and the information herein should not be used for anything other than the pure entertainment of reading about college football. There. All of that said, the for fun only predictions are in the table below. Before we get there, let’s decide how to spend our valuable Saturday watching time.

…..

The best game in the midday time slot is a top 3 matchup in the ACC. Both teams are 2-0 it promises to be entertaining. #1 UNC hosts #3 Virginia Tech. Both schools have lost a few games due to COVID but have made the most of what they have been able to do. Vegas like the Tar Heels at home -4.5. Last year the Hokies was a barnburner 43-41. This one will be fun and earns the game of the week title. Runners up are Oklahoma (42) hosting Texas (26) while trying to avoid a 1-3 start, and Florida (4) at Texas A&M (20).

…..

In the afternoon slot Tennessee (6) at Georgia (2) stands out. Both teams are looking for a commanding 3-0 start in the SEC East. Georgia trounced Auburn (18) last week and Tennessee took care of business with Missouri (35). Vegas likes the Bulldogs -12.5, but that line started at -14.5 so those who do gamble despite the sage advice of your favorite GCR blogger are looking at a closer contest. Runner up: Arkansas (19) who broke a 20-conference game losing streak at Auburn (18)

…..

The best game in the evening has to be Miami FL (7) at Clemson (13). The winner of this game has a real shot at making the ACC championship game. While Vegas has the Tigers -14, their wins were against 1-2 Wake Forest (39), 0-4 and last ranked Citadel (86), and 1-1 Virginia (10). The Hurricanes (sorry Louisiana and Alabama) defeated 3-1 UAB (40), 1-2 Louisville (31), and 1-2 Florida St (38). Neither team has been challenged and this one should be a fight. I can’t wait. Spoiler alert, the GCR is picking Miami in a close game. Runner up: Mississippi St (22) at Kentucky (40) – which Bulldog team will show up?

…..

There are 31 games after the postponement of Coastal Carolina (45) and Louisiana (33) including the pure FCS game of Mercer (first game) at Jacksonville St (59). Of those, 9 meet the qualifications for prediction. The home team will win 7 of them with Texas and Miami FL getting the road victories. Here is the table.

…..

Enjoy the weekend and if you are looking for something to do right now, Tulane is still edging Houston (thanks to 3 Cougar turnovers) 24-21 with just over 2 minutes to go in the half. Thanks for commenting and sharing with others, G.
