G’s Explanation or One Week to Go!

Welcome back, college sports fans. We have made mistakes before (much too often) with schedules and the occasional bit of information. We feel like we have owned those and tried to learn from them. Yesterday we posted that in addition to the seven Women’s games yesterday, there would be two more today (the NIT semifinals). Our source, which is an app by a major sports organization, had those two games listed for today (3/31) with TBD for the teams. The last of the Quarterfinals were yesterday, so we thought, ok, they play the semis the next day – kind of odd, but the NIT schedule has been that way this season. We got ready to do the prep work for today’s post to find out those games are now on April 1st. We guess the sports network gave us a big April’s Fools.

…..

There were seven games (all Women’s) yesterday. Texas and South Carolina joined UCONN and UCLA in the NCAA Final Four, with tipoff on Friday April 3rd – only the 5th time that all four 1-seeds got that far AND only the 2nd time that the same teams made the Final Four two years in a row. Last season, UCONN (over UCLA) and South Carolina (over Texas) made the final with the Huskies taking the crown. Congratulations also go to Columbia (over Wisconsin) and BYU (over Kansas) for earning spots in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBIT) final, which will be played on April 1st. In the NIT, Arkansas St (over Cleveland St), Illinois St (over Geo Wash), and Marshall (over Army) join South Dakota (who won their quarterfinal the day before – see what I mean about NIT scheduling?) in that tournament’s semifinals, which are now on the books for April 1st.

…..

The GCR was 7-0 yesterday bringing the Women’s total record to 201-77 (.723). There are 7 games left. The Men, who were off yesterday and today, sit at 187-89 (.678). They have 13 games left. The overall record, with 20 games to go, is 388-166 (.699), just under the .700 target.

…..

There are no games today but tune in tomorrow for the Women’s NIT Semifinals and the WBIT Final. The Men’s 8-team College Basketball Crown Tournament (CBC) finally jumps in with its first round (aka the Quarterfinals). There are just six more days of basketball. We will continue to publish the day’s games and predictions each morning. The last Women’s game (NCAA Championship) is April 5th. The last Men’s game (NCAA Championship) is April 6th. On the 7th, we will publish the final Women’s Top 363. On the 8th, we will publish the final Men’s Top 363. Then, the GCR will take a few weeks off from publishing to code the 2026-27 football season. We will be back sometime in May to kick off that season.

…..

That’s enough business today. Thank you for tuning in through whichever source you use; email via the website (bit.ly/2019GCR), the website itself, Facebook (Gettys Computer Ranking – College Football), or LinkedIn (G. Robert Gettys). Let us know suggestions for improvement in the next year for us. Let us know what you are not seeing that you would like more of and what we do too much. While we are constantly tweaking how we report and the look and feel of our posts and site, we could use your help. Thank you in advance, JoJo and G.
