As anyone who has read this blog for any length of time, I try very hard not to discuss politics or anything outside of college football. There are exceptions. School shootings (at all levels) are out of control (not that there is a number other than 0 that is in control). Last year the Virginia team suffered a tremendous loss that is a great deal of their winless start (not that football wins are important in comparison). I’m not going to list all of them, but there are many more than 0. This past Tuesday two gunmen, who to my understanding are still at large, shot 5 people at Morgan St in Baltimore. As of the last report, 4 have been released from the hospital and the remaining person is in stable condition. When we get to the point that the thought “at least no one died,” we have reached a sad place. This week was homecoming and the school was scheduled to host Stony Brook. Of course, and rightly so, the game has been cancelled. But the game isn’t the important thing. The shooting more than likely had nothing to do with football at all. What is important is our teenaged kids are walking on our campuses knowing that they could be next. This has got to stop.
