Welcome back, college football fans, to episode 680 aka Week 2 Day 2 aka Day 5 of the season. Yesterday we had some terrific games. First, let me (G) thank Carl L and his family for my day as an all-in Colorado (1-0/17) fan. That game came down to a blocked field goal attempt as time expired for the Buffalos to take down home-town Georgia Tech (0-1/ 14-13. The biggest game of the day had to be UMASS taking down Rutgers 37-21 as 29.5-point underdogs (do we really need to tirade about choosing winners prior to any games being played?). FCS Albany (0-1/85) nearly took down Buffalo (1-0/23) before the Bulls scored the winning touchdown with under 5:00 to play – final score 21-17. The rest of the games were blowouts that were never seriously in doubt. One more word of thanks to JoJo who despite being at a group dinner, kept me up to date with scores when the internet failed me mid-game.

One of the Georgia Tech fans mentioned something interesting, and he was sort of correct. Bobby Dodd Stadium is the oldest active FBS stadium in the country being active since 1913. There are two that are older: Harvard (1903) which is the oldest permanent concrete structure for college athletics and Penn (1895) which holds the mark and hosted the first radio broadcast of a game. The things we learn.

But today is about the 9 games on the slate today. In the table below, the games are listed in the order of kickoff (all times Eastern). There are no neutral site games today, so the first team listed (as well as the first conference listed) is the visiting team. “NA” as a conference indicates a non-Division I opponent – either Division II, Division III, or NAIA, the GCR does not care which. When only one conference is listed (see the Miami FL/Stanford game), it indicates a conference matchup. The Vegas column lists the betting favorite to win and by what margin. For example, Vegas thinks E Michigan will beat San Jose St by 3 points. The only game in which both teams have played at least one game is the first one in the list. The GCR column shows, in this case, that the algorithm calculates E Michigan should win the game. The Cover column shows, in this case, that the algorithm calculates E Michigan should win by at least 3. While we do not gamble on college football, we do recommend that, if you do, you do so safely and responsibly. The table below is for entertainment purposes and is not designed to encourage gambling.
