G’s Expectation or The Weekend is Here!

Welcome back, college sports fans, to episode 734 which is all about the beginning of a fantastic weekend for us. Before we jump in, we would like to take a moment of silence for a lost friend and long-time subscriber to the GCR, Les A. who passed away unexpectedly last night. Our condolences go out to his family and friends on this difficult day.

…..

As we usually do, we will start with football, the genesis sport in the GCR, with a review of yesterday’s games and success rate. In the MEAC, SC St (8-2/136) took care of business at Howard (4-6/242) as expected but not by the 16.5 points Vegas was thinking of, 35-28. The GCR predicted both so 1-0 straight up and 1-0 against the spread. In the American, we had a HUGE upset when FAU (6-3/76) trounced 6.5-favorite UTSA (7-2/58) 60-29 which more than likely killed UTSA’s chances at the playoffs. The GCR missed this one completely. Lastly, James Madison (8-2/36) got back in the win column, as expected, besting Southern Miss (3-6/136) 54-23. That makes the day 2-1 SU and 2-1 ATS which brings the week to 6-2 SU and 3-5 ATS.

…..

There are five games on the slate today including our first three Core 4 games in Week 10. We are calling for two upsets with Virginia Tech to win outright over favored SMU and South Florida to win over East Carolina. We are also calling a Vegas upset with Illinois playing Nebraska closer than 4.5 points.

…..

Switching gears to Men’s basketball, we have 65 games today. Tomorrow, all 365 teams will have played at least one game. We only have 11 Non-Division I (ND1) games, which is a nice reduction. As a reminder, for the season, the Division I men play ND1 teams 9.5% of the time – a number that drops to near zero once conference play begins around the first of 2027. Once again, we don’t have any games in which both teams have played at least two games (step one for the GCR prediction model to kick in). Step two, which we will go into detail on later, is that both prediction algorithms agree. For now, we just have the list and how to watch.

The Women have just 44 games today, including 2 first-game-of-the-seasoners. Going into Saturday, only the St Josephs Women will be 0-0. In the games today, there are 10 ND1 teams on the schedule. The Women face ND1 opponents only 7.5% of the time this season – and that number drops to almost zero once conference play kicks in. For both leagues, early November and the end of December are prime ND1 time. There are no games today in which both teams have at least 2 games played, so no predictions. Here are the games and how to watch today.
